Cupping

Cupping is another ancient technique becoming more popular in the West recently.  The Chinese are most well known for it in the last century or so. It uses suction to circulate the blood, lymph, and Chi (energy) instead of pressure, so if deeper pressure isn’t possible or would cause too much pain or discomfort, then cupping is a great alternative.  And it is very effective in reducing pain in trouble spots by moving toxins out with the increased circulation, breaking up scar tissue and adhesions of fascia, and moving lymph to help boost the immune system.

Susan uses both the silicone soft cups that slide more easily with less suction as well as the plastic cups that can be pumped to hold greater suction. Both types can be left on an area to soften the tissue effectively. Tight areas are often “holding on” to blood and lymph and toxins. The suction forces the fluid to move, so fresh blood and nutrients can come into the tissue while toxins and wastes are removed.  Sliding the soft cups is also extremely effective in reducing pain and freeing adhesions in chronically tight, tense muscles of the body.
